How to Find and Catch Every Naturally Spawning Axolotl Variant

Where the wild variants spawn

The mod's naturally occurring variants (Golden, Cyanide, Red, Lucia, Green, Dark, Wilder, and White) spawn in the same lush cave water pools as vanilla axolotls. Because they share spawn tables with the base colors, you will not find them in the ocean or in ordinary rivers — head underground to a lush caves biome and look for the clay-and-water pockets.

Practical hunting loop

1. Bring a bucket and a lead. Buckets are the only reliable way to move a caught axolotl without it wandering off.

2. Explore several separate lush cave pools rather than farming one. Each pool rolls its own spawns, so visiting more pools gives you more chances at the rarer colors like Golden and Cyanide.

3. If a pool is full of vanilla pink or blue axolotls, move on — the mod variants compete for the same spawn slots.

4. Use a Night Vision potion and a Water Breathing potion so you can scan deep pools quickly without surfacing.

5. When you find a variant you want, corner it against a wall before bucketing it; axolotls flee fast in open water.

Keeping them alive

Place captured variants in a dedicated pool with clay and a few tropical fish. Axolotls dry out on land, so never leave a bucketed one sitting on a block — release it into water immediately after transport.
