How to Breed the Skulk and Glowxolotl Variants
Why these two are different
Skulk and Glowxolotl are breeding-exclusive variants. That means you will never find them spawning naturally in lush caves — the only way to obtain them is to breed axolotls and hope the offspring rolls into one of these special colors.
Setting up a breeding pool
1. Build a contained water pool at least a few blocks wide with solid walls so babies cannot escape.
2. Catch two adult axolotls of any variant and release them into the pool.
3. Feed each adult a bucket of tropical fish to put them in love mode. They will approach each other and produce a baby.
4. The baby inherits a variant based on the parents' colors, but there is a chance it rolls into a breeding-exclusive variant instead. Keep breeding pairs and watch each newborn's color.
5. Separate babies into a holding pool so you can identify their variant without losing track of them.
Improving your odds
Breed repeatedly with different parent combinations. Because the exclusive variants are a rare outcome rather than a guaranteed one, expect to run many breeding cycles. Keep a written note of which parent pairs produced which results so you can repeat a pairing that worked. Once you have a Skulk or Glowxolotl, breed it with unrelated axolotls to build up a stable population rather than relying on a single individual.
