How to Find and Identify Axolotl Variant Identifiers
Where Identifiers Come From
Every axolotl variant in this mod is identified by a ResourceLocation — a namespace and a path separated by a colon, like minecraft:lucy or yourmodid:yourvariantname. Vanilla variants use the minecraft namespace. Modded variants use the namespace of the mod that registered them.
1. Check the mod's source or config for the exact strings passed to ModdedAxolotlVariant.register. Those strings are the identifiers.
2. For vanilla variants, the identifiers are the familiar color names: minecraft:lucy, minecraft:wild, minecraft:gold, minecraft:cyan, and minecraft:blue.
3. For modded variants, look for the ResourceLocation arguments — the first is the namespace, the second is the path.
Testing an Identifier
Use /summon minecraft:axolotl ~ ~ ~ {Variant:"namespace:path"} in a test world. If the axolotl spawns with the expected appearance, the identifier is correct. If the command errors or the axolotl looks default, the identifier is wrong or the variant isn't registered. Identifiers are case-sensitive in practice — always use lowercase. Never guess a numeric variant ID; this mod replaced numbers with tags, so numeric values will not work.
