Adding Your Own Content to a Modonomicon Book (Datapack and JSON Basics)
What Modonomicon expects
Modonomicon is built so that books, categories, and entries are defined as data, not hardcoded. That means you can add or edit guide content with a datapack instead of writing Java. Content lives under a data namespace, typically in folders for books, categories, and entries, each described by a JSON file.
The structure
- A book file defines the book's ID, its name, its icon, and which categories it contains.
- A category file groups entries and sets the category icon and background.
- An entry file holds the pages. Each page has a type (for example a text page, a crafting recipe page, or an image page) plus the fields that type needs.
Practical steps
1. Create a datapack with a data/<your_namespace>/modonomicon/ folder tree.
2. Add a book JSON, then one category JSON, then one entry JSON with a single text page to test.
3. Load the world and open the book to confirm your entry appears.
4. Add more page types one at a time, reloading between changes so you can spot which file broke.
Tips
Keep namespaces and IDs lowercase and consistent. Use the mod's existing example files as templates for exact field names, since page types each require specific keys.
