How to Pause on Inventory and Tune GUI Scale and Scrolling

Modern UI changes several quality-of-life behaviours: it can pause single-player when you open your inventory, turns GUI scale into a slider, and smooths scrolling in lists.

Pausing When Opening Inventory

In the Modern UI settings, find the gameplay or behaviour section and enable the option to pause the single-player game when the inventory is opened. With it on, opening your inventory in a single-player world halts the world like the pause menu does, so you are not attacked while sorting items. This does not apply on multiplayer servers, where the world cannot be paused.

Fine-Tuning GUI Scale

Vanilla only offers a few fixed GUI scale steps. Modern UI replaces this with a slider, so you can pick intermediate sizes. Open the GUI scale setting and drag the slider; the interface resizes live so you can judge readability. Very small values make text tiny but fit more on screen; very large values make everything readable but cramped.

Smooth Scrolling

Enable the smooth scrolling option in the settings to make lists (server lists, resource packs, mod lists) scroll with easing instead of jumping in steps. If it feels sluggish, reduce the smoothness or turn it off; the effect is purely visual and does not change how far you scroll.
