How to Tell Which Mod Is Causing a Crash on Startup

Watch the Last Successful Entry

When the game crashes during loading, the loading screen is your best clue. The last mod shown as loading, or the one whose progress bar was filling when the screen disappeared, is the prime suspect. Write down that name before the crash window closes.

Check the Log for Confirmation

Open your game's log file and search for the suspect mod's name near the end. The log usually shows the last action before the crash, such as a missing dependency, a duplicate registry entry, or an incompatible class. The loading screen tells you where it stopped; the log tells you why.

Isolate the Culprit

If the suspect mod has dependencies, confirm they are present and the right version. If it conflicts with another mod, try removing one of the pair and relaunching. Because the loading screen lists mods in load order, a crash right after a library mod loads often points to a content mod that depends on it. Remove or update the suspect, relaunch, and confirm the loading screen now passes that point. Repeat until startup completes.
