How to Diagnose a Slow Minecraft Startup Using the Loading Screen
Identify the Bottleneck
Launch the game and watch which mod name stays on screen the longest. The loading screen shows per-mod progress, so the entry that lingers is your bottleneck. Common slow points are mods that generate ore configs, build large registries, or scan the world folder on first run.
Compare Across Launches
The first launch after adding mods is always slower because configs and caches are being written. Launch again without changing anything. If the same mod is still slow on the second and third launch, it is genuinely heavy rather than just doing one-time setup. If startup got faster, the delay was first-run generation and nothing needs fixing.
Reduce the Load
If one mod consistently dominates load time, decide whether you need it. Removing unused content mods shortens the list and the total time. Avoid adding many mods at once — add a few, launch, and note how the loading screen changes. This makes it obvious which addition caused a slowdown. Keep an eye on mods near the end of the list too; they often depend on earlier ones and can stall if a dependency is slow.
