Limit How Many of One Mob Type Can Spawn Near a Player

Setting Per-Player Spawn Caps

Prevent lag and control difficulty by capping how many of a specific mob can exist near each player at once. This is essential for balancing custom spawning rules.

Steps

1. Open your mob rule configuration

2. Find or create a per-player limit or cap setting

3. Enter the maximum number of that mob allowed within the player proximity range (e.g., 5 Creepers per player)

4. Optionally adjust the player proximity range if your mod supports it—this defines how far from the player the cap applies

5. Save and test by spawning into an area where that mob normally appears

Combining Caps with Conditions

You can layer multiple limits: set a per-player cap AND a per-condition limit (e.g., only 3 Zombies in swamps per player, but 8 in dark caves). Once the cap is reached, no new mobs of that type spawn until existing ones despawn or are killed. This prevents exponential mob buildup in high-spawn-rate areas.
