Display Live Player Count and Server Status in MOTD
Using Placeholders for Dynamic Information
Placeholders automatically update your MOTD with real-time data like current player count, without manual editing.
Steps
1. Open your MiniMOTD configuration file
2. In the MOTD text field, insert placeholder variables where you want dynamic info
3. Common placeholders include:
%online%or similar for current player count%max%for maximum player slots%server_status%for server state
4. Example MOTD: Welcome! Players: %online%/%max%
5. Save the configuration
6. Execute /minimotd reload with admin permissions
7. Check your server list entry—the placeholders should now show live data
Best Practices
- Keep placeholder text short to fit the MOTD character limit
- Combine placeholders with static text for context (e.g., "Online: %online%")
- Test placeholders after configuration changes to ensure they're recognized
- Some placeholders may require additional plugin dependencies—check your plugin's documentation if a placeholder doesn't work
