Customize Server Ping Response and Version Display
Modifying How Your Server Appears in the Server List
Ping response customization controls what version players see and how many players are displayed when hovering over your server.
Steps
1. Access your MiniMOTD configuration file
2. Find the ping response or version section
3. Set a custom version string (e.g., "1.20" or "Latest") instead of the default
4. Configure the displayed player count—you can show the actual count, a custom number, or hide it entirely
5. Optionally set a maximum player slot display
6. Save your changes
7. Run /minimotd reload with admin permissions
8. Refresh the server list in-game to see the updated ping response
Configuration Options
- Version Display: Choose what version label appears (useful for multi-version servers)
- Player Count: Show real players, a fixed number, or a custom placeholder
- Max Players: Set a different max than your actual server capacity for visual effect
- Test changes by refreshing your server list multiple times to ensure consistency
- Some servers use this to advertise features (e.g., showing "Vanilla" as version)
