How to Stop Minecraft Stuttering by Setting the Right Memory with Memory Settings Mod

Why the Warning Appears

When you launch the game, Memory Settings Mod checks the Java arguments your launcher passed in. If the maximum heap size is too low for the mods you run, or if the minimum and maximum values are mismatched in a way that causes the JVM to constantly resize, the mod shows a startup warning instead of letting you play into a stuttery mess. The warning is not an error — it is the mod telling you to fix your allocation before the freezing starts.

Fixing the Allocation

1. Open the mod's config file, which is generated in your Minecraft config directory after first launch.

2. Find the client memory section. You will see entries for minimum memory and maximum memory.

3. Set the maximum to a value your system can comfortably spare while leaving room for the operating system and other programs. A common approach is to allocate a portion of your total system RAM rather than all of it.

4. Set the minimum equal to or slightly below the maximum so the JVM does not repeatedly grow and shrink the heap.

5. Save the config and restart the game so the new values are read at launch.

The mod does not change your Java arguments for you — it only reads and reports them. You still need to apply the same values in your launcher's JVM arguments so the two agree.
