How to Configure Separate Client and Server Memory in Memory Settings Mod

Why They Are Separate

A dedicated server and a client have different memory needs. The client renders the world and loads textures, while the server tracks entities, chunks, and world data. The mod lets you configure minimum and maximum memory for both independently, so you are not forced to use one value for both situations.

Configuring Each Side

1. Open the config file from your Minecraft config directory.

2. Locate the client memory entries and the server memory entries. They are grouped separately.

3. For the client, set a maximum that leaves headroom for your operating system and any background applications. Set the minimum close to the maximum to avoid heap resizing during play.

4. For the server, set values appropriate to the number of players and the size of the world. Servers with many loaded chunks generally need more than a small client.

5. Save the config and restart whichever side you changed.

Remember that the mod reports and warns — it does not apply the values to the JVM. You must mirror the same numbers in your launcher or server start script. If the config and the actual Java arguments disagree, the mod will keep warning you even after you edit the config.
