What Mekanism Shields Are

Mekanism Tools adds Shields for several materials, including Bronze, Lapis Lazuli, and Osmium. They function like the vanilla shield: hold it in your offhand or main hand and right-click to raise it, blocking incoming damage from the direction you are facing.

Crafting a Shield

Craft a shield using the matching material for your chosen tier. The recipe follows the vanilla shield layout but substitutes the material — for example, Bronze Plates or Ingots instead of iron. Check JEI/REI for the exact pattern in your version.

Using a Shield in Combat

Equip the shield in your offhand so your main hand stays free for a sword or axe. Right-click to block. Blocking reduces or negates damage from melee attacks and many projectiles, but it slows your movement while raised. Lower the shield to move normally, then raise it again when a hit is incoming.

Pairing With Armor

Shields stack well with a full armor set. Use the same material tier for a consistent look and performance, or mix tiers — for example, an Osmium Shield with Refined Glowstone armor. Enchant the shield with Unbreaking and Mending to keep it alive through long fights.
