Setting Up a Solar Generator Array That Actually Scales

Basic vs Advanced

Solar Generator is the cheap starter panel — it only produces during daylight and has a modest output. Advanced Solar Generator produces more and can be upgraded with modules. Both need direct sky access; placing them under blocks or in caves stops production entirely.

Layout for Scaling

Place panels in a flat grid on the surface. Each panel outputs to whatever cable or adjacent machine it touches. For a large array, run a single energy cable underneath the whole grid and connect every panel to it, then route that cable to your storage or machines.

Modules

Advanced Solar Generators accept modules in their interface. The Module Solar Recharging Unit lets the panel recharge items you place in it (like tools or armor with energy storage). The Module Geothermal Generator Unit is for the Heat Generator, not solar — don't mix them up.

Realistic Expectations

Solar is reliable but slow. A single panel won't run a factory. Build a wide array — dozens of panels — before relying on it as a primary source. Pair it with a battery or Energy Cube so overnight gaps don't stall your machines.

Placement Notes

  • Keep panels at the same Y level for a clean grid.
  • Don't place them where trees or tall structures will grow over them.
  • Use a wrench to rotate or pick up panels without losing them.
