Building a Wind Generator for Reliable Passive Power

How Wind Generators Work

Wind Generators produce power from wind. Output scales with height — the higher you place them, the more they generate. They also need open space; obstructions around them reduce output.

Placement Strategy

Build a tall pillar or tower and stack Wind Generators at the top. Place them at the highest Y level you can reasonably reach, ideally above surrounding terrain and away from tall blocks. Each generator should have clear air around it.

Wiring Them Up

Run an energy cable down the tower and connect every generator to it. Route the cable to your base's storage or machine bank. Because output is passive and continuous (unlike solar), wind is a good complement to solar arrays — it keeps producing at night.

Realistic Output

A single low-altitude Wind Generator produces very little. The payoff comes from stacking many at high altitude. Treat wind as a supplementary source rather than a primary one unless you build a large tower farm.

Tips

  • Build the tower out of a cheap, non-conductive block so cables don't short.
  • Use ladders or a jetpack to reach the top for maintenance.
  • Combine wind and solar on the same cable network for round-the-clock passive power.
