Growing and Harvesting Barley for Bread and Stews

Barley is one of the mod's staple grain crops and feeds into bread, stews, and pot pies. It behaves like wheat but has its own seeds and growth stages.

Planting Barley

1. Craft or find Barley Seeds. They drop from grass in some biomes and can also be obtained by breaking mature barley.

2. Till soil with a hoe near water, exactly as you would for wheat.

3. Plant Barley Seeds on the tilled soil.

4. Light the area so the crop grows through the night, or plant outdoors during the day.

Harvesting and Using Barley

When the barley stalks turn golden and the heads are fully formed, break them to get Barley plus more Barley Seeds. Replant immediately to keep a steady supply.

Barley is used in Barley Bread, Barley Slice, Beef Stew, and Beef Pot Pie. Because stews and pot pies consume multiple barley per craft, plant a decent-sized field — at least a few rows — before you start cooking. If you want a self-sustaining farm, save a portion of every harvest for replanting rather than turning all of it into flour or bread.
