How to Use Slabs and Stairs from Macaw's Paths and Pavings
What Variants Exist
Several pattern families in the mod include slab and stair versions. The wiki lists slab and stair variants for crystal floor, flagstone, running bond, and windmill weave, in both andesite and blackstone. These let you build steps, raised platforms, curbs, and layered flooring that matches your paving.
Crafting Slabs and Stairs
Slabs are crafted by arranging the full block in a horizontal line in the crafting grid, producing multiple slabs. Stairs use the classic stair shape: three blocks in a row with one block below the middle. Check your recipe viewer for the exact layout, since the mod follows vanilla-style recipes for these conversions.
Building with Them
Use slabs to create half-height transitions between path levels, or to top walls and planters. Stairs work well for short steps up to a doorway, tiered garden beds, or decorative edges around a fountain. Because the textures match the full blocks, mixing slabs, stairs, and full paving in one area keeps the look consistent.
Tips
- Slabs are efficient: one block yields multiple slabs, so they stretch your stone further.
- Place stairs facing the direction of travel so the step reads naturally.
- Combine a slab border with a full-block center to fake a sunken or raised floor without terraforming.
