How to Mix Paving Patterns for Better-Looking Floors

Why Mix Patterns

A single paving texture across a large floor looks flat and repetitive. The mod gives you many patterns for the same base stone, so you can combine them to create borders, medallions, and inlays without switching materials. This is the main reason to install the mod: variety from one stone type.

Simple Mixing Recipes

  • Border and field: Use flagstone as a border and running bond or basket weave as the field.
  • Accent strip: Run a line of crystal floor through a plain paving to suggest a metal inlay.
  • Medallion: Place a clover or windmill weave square in the center of a room, surrounded by a simpler pattern.
  • Threshold: Use a diamond or honeycomb paving at doorways to mark transitions.

Keeping It Coherent

Stick to one base stone (all andesite or all blackstone) when mixing patterns, so the colors stay consistent. Vary only the pattern, not the material. If you want two stones, use one for the border and one for the field, and keep the patterns simple.

Tips

  • Plan the layout on paper or with temporary blocks before committing.
  • Use slabs to raise a medallion slightly for a subtle 3D effect.
  • Symmetry reads well in formal builds; asymmetry suits rustic ones.
