Use Luminance with Shader Packs for Enhanced Visuals

Setting Up Shaders with Luminance

Luminance acts as a foundation layer that enables shader packs to access more game information and render more reliably. To get the best results, you need compatible components.

Installation and Configuration

1. Install Iris Shaders — Luminance requires Iris to function. Iris is the shader mod that actually loads and runs shader packs.

2. Install a compatible shader pack — Download a shader pack designed for modern Minecraft versions. Shader packs are separate from mods and go in your shaderpacks folder.

3. Launch the game — Luminance loads automatically as a library mod in the background.

4. Select your shader pack — Open Iris options (default O key) and choose your shader pack from the list.

5. Adjust shader settings — Most shader packs have configurable options like bloom intensity, shadow quality, or color grading.

6. Monitor performance — Shaders are demanding. Use F3 to check frame rates and adjust settings if needed.

Compatibility Note

Luminance fixes shader namespace issues that would otherwise cause problems. This means shader packs work more reliably across different mods and Minecraft versions when Luminance is present.
