How to Use Contexts to Make Permissions Apply Only in Certain Worlds or Servers

What a context is

A context is a condition attached to a permission or group assignment. LuckPerms supports contexts like server=, world=, dimension=, and gamemode. When a player meets the context, the permission applies; otherwise it is ignored.

Applying a contextual permission

Instead of /lp group vip permission set essentials.fly true, use /lp group vip permission set essentials.fly true world=creative. Now flight is only granted inside the creative world. You can stack contexts: /lp group vip permission set some.node true server=lobby world=hub.

Contextual group membership

You can also make a group apply only in one place: /lp user Alex parent add builder server=build. Alex keeps their normal groups elsewhere but gains builder permissions on the build server.

Inspecting and clearing contexts

Run /lp user Alex permission info to see every node with its contexts listed. To remove a contextual assignment, repeat the set command with unset and the same context string, or use /lp user Alex parent remove builder server=build. Contexts are the cleanest way to run multiple gamemodes on one network without permission bleed between them. Always match the exact context string when editing, or you will create a second, separate entry.
