How to Create a Group and Give It Permissions in LuckPerms
Creating the group
LuckPerms organizes everything around groups. To make one, open chat and run /lp creategroup vip. This creates an empty group named vip with no permissions attached. You can list all existing groups with /lp listgroups to confirm it was added.
Assigning permissions
Now give the group the permissions you want its members to have. The command shape is /lp group <group> permission set <node> <true|false>. For example, /lp group vip permission set essentials.fly true grants flight to anyone in the group. To deny something, use false instead. You can also use unset to remove a node entirely so it falls back to defaults.
Adding players
Attach a player with /lp user <name> parent add vip. That player now inherits every permission the group holds. If you want the group to apply only on one server or world, add the context flag, e.g. /lp user Steve parent add vip server=survival.
Verifying
Run /lp user Steve permission check essentials.fly to see whether the permission resolves and where it comes from. LuckPerms shows the source group, which is invaluable when debugging why a player does or does not have access. Remember that permissions are cached briefly, so a relog or /lp sync may be needed after large edits.
