How to Stop Mobs Spawning in a Haunted Building (Torches Not Working)

Why Lighting Fails

In a haunted building, the Lost Souls Mod overrides normal light-based spawning. Mobs appear regardless of light level, so placing torches, glowstone, or lanterns will not make the area safe. This is intentional — the mod is designed to force combat rather than allow easy caving-style lockdown.

What Actually Works

1. Clear the building. The only reliable way to stop spawns is to defeat the required number of mobs. Once the clear condition is met, the haunting ends and normal spawning rules return.

2. Use the config. If you'd rather not fight, the mod lets you disable or reduce haunted spawns. Look for options controlling which mobs can spawn and how many appear, and turn them down or off.

3. Block access physically. While mobs may still spawn inside, walling off sections with solid blocks can funnel them into kill zones and keep them out of your safe rooms.

What Doesn't Work

  • Torches, lanterns, and other light sources.
  • Sleeping to skip the night — haunted spawns aren't tied to time of day.
  • Leaving and returning later; the haunting persists until cleared or disabled in config.
