How to Make Only Valuable Items Show Loot Beams

Why Filter Beams

By default a loot beam mod may mark every dropped item, which turns a messy battlefield or a full chest explosion into a wall of light. Filtering so that only rare or valuable drops glow keeps the effect useful: your eye is drawn to the diamond, not the dirt.

Setting Up a Filter

Open the Loot Beams config file in your instance's config folder. Look for the section that controls which items receive beams. Depending on your build, this is usually handled one of two ways:

  • Rarity-based filtering — the mod reads each item's rarity (common, uncommon, rare, epic) and only beams items at or above a threshold you choose. Raise the threshold so only rare and epic drops glow.
  • Item list / tag filtering — you explicitly list item IDs or tags that should (or should not) get beams. Add the items you care about, such as ores, gems, and boss drops.

If both exist, pick the approach that matches how you play. On a survival world, rarity filtering is quick and low-maintenance. On a modded pack with custom loot, an explicit list gives you finer control.

Testing Your Filter

Drop a stack of common blocks and a few rare items side by side. Only the filtered items should light up. Adjust the threshold or list until the result feels right, then save and reload. Remember this is purely visual and client-side, so you can tune it freely without touching the server.
