How to Use Logical Zoom Like OptiFine Zoom
The Behaviour You Expect
Players coming from OptiFine expect a smooth, adjustable zoom that feels natural for scouting terrain. Logical Zoom recreates that feel: you press the zoom key and the camera magnifies, and releasing or toggling it returns you to normal view. The default key matches the OptiFine convention, so muscle memory carries over.
Getting the OptiFine Feel
1. Confirm the zoom key is bound (see the controls menu) and free of conflicts.
2. In-world, look toward the area you want to inspect.
3. Press the zoom key to magnify; press again (or release, depending on how it is set) to return.
4. Move the mouse slowly while zoomed — high magnification amplifies every small movement.
5. For extra reach, raise a spyglass first and then apply zoom, since the mod stacks the two.
Practical Uses
- Scanning the horizon for distant builds, villages, or landmarks.
- Checking whether a far-off silhouette is a mob before you commit to travelling.
- Reading terrain shape when planning a route across mountains or oceans.
- Inspecting redstone or builds from a distance without walking over.
If the zoom ever stops responding, the usual cause is a keybind conflict or an unsaved control change — revisit the controls menu and re-confirm your zoom key.
