Set Up Effective Arrow Distractions to Clear Guard Patrols
Choose Your Distraction Target Wisely
Fire arrows at walls, floors, or distant surfaces—never at the same spot twice, as guards learn to ignore repeated distractions. Pick locations away from your actual path so mobs investigate in the opposite direction.
Timing and Positioning
Fire an arrow to strike a surface behind or to the side of their patrol route. The noise will pull them toward the impact point, opening a clear path forward.
Combine with Other Stealth Tactics
Use distractions to buy time while you move through tall grass or approach from behind. A single arrow can redirect an entire alerted squad long enough for you to reposition. This works best when guards haven't yet assigned a leader—once organized, they're harder to scatter.
Know When Distractions Fail
If you fire multiple arrows in the same area, mobs recognize the pattern and ignore new sounds. Vary your distraction locations and use them sparingly. Reserve arrows for critical moments when you need to clear a specific patrol route.
