Understanding the Logarithmic Scale and Why Your Volume Feels Different

How the Mod Changes Volume Perception

The Logarithmic Volume Control Mod converts Minecraft's volume sliders from linear to logarithmic scaling. In a linear system, moving the slider halfway means half the volume. In a logarithmic system, the slider accounts for how human ears actually perceive loudness—we perceive volume changes logarithmically, not linearly.

What This Means In Practice

With this mod installed, small slider adjustments at lower volumes create noticeable changes, while the same adjustment at higher volumes feels more subtle. This matches real-world hearing: the difference between 10% and 20% volume sounds much larger than the difference between 80% and 90%.

When you open Options → Sound Settings, all volume sliders (Master, Music, Weather, Block, Hostile, Neutral, Players, Ambient, Voice/Chat) now use logarithmic scaling. You'll notice finer control over quiet sounds and more natural-feeling adjustments overall.

If volumes suddenly seem different after installing the mod, this is expected—your previous slider positions represented different actual volumes under the new system. Readjust sliders to your preference.
