Identify Safe Light Levels for Your Base

Understanding the Color Overlay

The Light Levels Resource Pack displays colored overlays on blocks to show you exactly which light levels are present in your world. Each color represents a different light threshold, making it immediately obvious where mobs can and cannot spawn.

Finding Mob-Proof Areas

1. Look for the safest color — typically the brightest overlay indicates light level 8 or higher, where most hostile mobs cannot spawn

2. Scan your base systematically — walk through rooms and corridors to spot any darker colored patches that indicate lower light levels

3. Pay special attention to corners and ceilings — these areas often have shadows where light levels drop unexpectedly

4. Mark problem areas — if you see unsafe light levels, note their location and add more light sources (torches, lanterns, glowstone) until the overlay changes to a safe color

5. Test at night — the overlay is most useful when it's dark outside, as natural light won't interfere with your assessment

Preventing Mob Spawning

Once you've identified all low-light areas, place additional light sources until the entire base shows the safe color overlay. This ensures mobs won't spawn inside your structures, even during the night.
