Using Map Size Settings for Your Playstyle

How Map Size Affects Climate Zones

Latitude Mod lets you choose your planet's size when creating a new world. Larger planets stretch climate zones across greater distances, while smaller planets compress them. This choice affects travel time, resource distribution, and exploration difficulty.

Choosing the Right Size

1. Tiny maps – Climate zones are very close together. You can reach polar regions quickly but have limited space in each zone. Good for players who want variety without long travel.

2. Small maps – Balanced climate zones with moderate travel distances. Recommended for most playstyles.

3. Large maps – Climate zones are spread far apart, requiring significant travel to experience different biomes. Ideal for players who enjoy long expeditions and want each zone to feel distinct.

4. Huge maps – Maximum separation between zones. Creates a true sense of planetary scale but demands serious commitment to cross zones.

Selection Tips

  • Survival players – Choose small or medium sizes for manageable travel without excessive grinding.
  • Explorers – Pick large or huge sizes to maximize discovery and journey variety.
  • Multiplayer servers – Larger maps give more players distinct territory within different climate zones.

You set this during world creation and cannot change it later, so choose thoughtfully.
