How to Find Large Ore Deposits in Your World

Large Ore Deposits adds enormous, rare ore veins that dwarf anything vanilla generates. Finding one is the whole point of the mod, so you need a strategy rather than blind digging.

Understand how deposits spawn

Deposits are configured per-dimension and per-biome, and each one has its own rarity and size parameters. Because they are intentionally rare, you will not stumble onto one every few chunks. Think of a deposit as a region-sized structure rather than a single vein — when you hit it, you will know, because the ore keeps going in every direction.

Use the tools the mod gives you

  • Run /lods list deposits to see every deposit currently defined in your config. The config name is the deposit name, so this tells you exactly what exists to be found.
  • Run /lods list generated to log deposits that have actually generated in your world. This is the fastest way to confirm whether a deposit is near you without strip-mining for hours.
  • Watch for above-ground indicators. The mod supports defining a surface block or plant (for example, a rare flower) that marks a deposit underneath. If your pack uses indicators, learn what they look like and scan the surface while exploring.

Mine efficiently

Once you locate a deposit, bring plenty of inventory space, a good pickaxe, and a way to get back out. Deposits are massive, so plan a shaft or staircase rather than a single tunnel. Fortune enchants pay off enormously here.
