Configure Shadow Settings for Better Visibility and Performance
Open Shadow Configuration
Press Shift + O in-game and navigate to the shadow or lighting settings section of the shader menu.
Adjust Shadow Quality
You'll find options to control shadow detail and intensity:
- Shadow Quality: Higher settings produce sharper, more defined shadows cast by the sun, moon, and tall blocks. Lower settings reduce shadow detail but improve performance.
- Shadow Distance: Controls how far shadows render from your character. Reducing this can help on older systems.
- Shadow Intensity: Adjust how dark shadows appear—stronger shadows create more contrast, while weaker shadows are subtler.
Test Different Settings
Move to an open area during daytime to observe shadows from trees, mountains, and structures. Notice how shadows change with your adjustments. During night, observe moon shadows if they're enabled.
Balance Visuals and Performance
If shadows cause lag, reduce quality or distance first before lowering intensity. The vanilla-like style means even lower shadow settings maintain the familiar Minecraft look.
Fine-Tune for Your Preference
Shadows enhance depth and atmosphere. Experiment until you find settings that make your world look good while maintaining smooth gameplay on your system.
