Optimize Shadows for Better Performance on Low-End Systems

Locate Shadow Distance Settings

Open Shader Options and find the shadow or lighting section. Look for options labeled "shadow distance," "shadow quality," or "render distance for shadows."

Reduce Shadow Rendering Load

Lower the shadow distance value to decrease how far shadows render from your character. This is the most effective way to boost frame rate on budget hardware. Shadows will still appear close to you, but distant terrain won't cast shadows.

If available, reduce shadow resolution or quality settings. Lower resolution shadows are less detailed but render much faster.

Balance Visibility and Performance

Test your changes in different lighting conditions—bright daylight, sunset, and caves. Make sure you can still see clearly in dark areas. The mod's nighttime balancing should keep caves navigable even with reduced shadow quality.

If your frame rate improves but caves feel too dark, slightly increase the ambient lighting or cave brightness setting instead of maxing out shadows again. This gives you better performance while maintaining safe exploration.
