Creating Vertical Shortcuts

Place a blue portal on a high ceiling or elevated surface, then place an orange portal on the ground or a lower wall. Jump into the ground-level portal and you'll shoot upward through the ceiling portal while maintaining your jump velocity, launching you to great heights.

Reverse the setup for descending: place a portal on a high wall pointing outward, and another on the ground below. Jump into the high portal and you'll exit the ground portal with your downward momentum preserved—useful for safely reaching the bottom of deep ravines.

Momentum Preservation Tips

Your speed and direction are always maintained through portals. Sprint before entering for maximum distance, or time your jump to exit at the perfect angle. Experiment with portal angles to create complex momentum-based routes through your world. This makes traversing mountainous terrain or crossing wide chasms nearly instant.
