Which Material Tier Should You Pick for Your Hammer?

Tier Basics

Just Hammers offers hammers in stone, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite. The material determines which blocks the hammer can mine and how long it lasts.

Tier-by-Tier Guidance

  • Stone: Cheap and disposable. Great for testing hammer mechanics or clearing dirt early on. Cannot mine ores requiring higher tiers.
  • Iron: The practical workhorse. Mines most common ores and lasts long enough for real mining trips.
  • Gold: Fast but fragile. Gold tools in Minecraft are known for speed and low durability, and the gold hammer follows that pattern. Use it for short bursts, not long sessions.
  • Diamond: The standard endgame choice. Mines obsidian and most hard blocks, with solid durability.
  • Netherite: The top tier. Highest durability and can mine anything the diamond tier can, plus it survives lava. Best for a hammer you plan to keep forever.

Matching Tier to Task

  • Early game / testing: stone or iron.
  • Mid game mining: iron or diamond.
  • Endgame bulk excavation: netherite Destructor or Reinforced Impact.

Upgrade Path

You do not have to craft each tier separately. Pick the tier you can afford now, and upgrade the variant (reinforced, impact, destructor) as you gather cores. Switching material tiers later means crafting a new base hammer at that tier.
