Mine Efficiently by Understanding Ore Distribution
Gather Complete Spawn Data
For each ore you need, open JEI and note three pieces of information: the height range, the cluster size, and the vein density. This data forms the foundation of an efficient mining plan.
Choose Your Mining Method
For common ores with large clusters: Cave diving or branch mining works well—you'll encounter veins frequently enough to make the effort worthwhile.
For rare ores with small clusters: Strip-mining at the correct height ensures you don't miss veins, though it's more time-consuming.
Optimize Your Depth
Focus your mining efforts at heights where multiple ores you need overlap. If several valuable ores spawn between Y-levels 40 and 60, concentrate your work there rather than jumping between different depths.
Check Biome Requirements
Before traveling to mine a specific ore, verify it spawns in your current biome. If not, travel to a biome where it does spawn. This saves time wasted digging in the wrong location.
Adjust Based on Results
If you're finding fewer veins than expected, check the density number again and consider expanding your search area or trying a different mining technique.
