How to Show Your Inventory from an Empty Hand

The empty-hand view

When your main hand is empty, pressing the ItemSwapper hotkey (default R) does not show a palette wheel. Instead it opens a view of your inventory contents, letting you pick an item to place directly into your empty hand.

Step by step

1. Make sure your main hand is empty — switch away from whatever you were holding.

2. Press and hold the hotkey. The interface appears showing items from your inventory.

3. Move the mouse or scroll to highlight the item you want.

4. Release the hotkey. The highlighted item moves into your main hand.

Why this is useful

  • After breaking a tool or placing your last block, you often end up empty-handed. This lets you re-arm instantly without opening the inventory screen.
  • It is faster than dragging items in the inventory GUI during combat or while building.
  • Combined with the shulker box feature, you can pull items from storage boxes straight into an empty hand.

Troubleshooting

If nothing appears when your hand is empty, your inventory may be completely empty, or the server you are on does not support the feature. Try holding a mapped item instead to confirm the hotkey is working at all.
