Reading Item Despawn Timers
Understanding the Timer Display
When you drop an item on the ground, a countdown timer will appear above it. This timer shows exactly how many seconds remain before the item despawns from the world. The timer counts down in real-time, so you can watch it decrease as seconds pass.
Using Timers for Item Management
Use the timer to plan your actions:
- Quick pickups: If a timer shows only a few seconds remaining, prioritize collecting that item before it vanishes
- Organizing drops: When dropping multiple items in one location, note which ones will despawn first
- Timing transportation: Watch the timer to determine if you have enough time to move an item to a storage system before it despawns
Timer Visibility
The timer displays above the item sprite and updates every second. If you're far from dropped items, you may not see the timer—move closer to view it clearly. The timer is purely informational and does not affect the item's actual despawn mechanics; items still follow Minecraft's standard five-minute despawn rule.
