How to Turn Off Item Borders in the Hotbar Only

Why Separate Hotbar and Inventory Settings Matter

Borders are useful in your inventory, where you're deciding what to keep, but distracting on the hotbar while you're fighting or building. Item Borders lets you control the two areas independently, so you can keep the helpful highlighting in your inventory and silence it on the hotbar.

Locating the Hotbar Toggle

Open the Item Borders config file in .minecraft/configs. Look through the options for the entry that controls hotbar rendering — it's a simple on/off toggle, and the comment above it explains what it does. Set it to the value that disables borders on the hotbar. Leave the inventory-related option untouched so your inventory highlighting keeps working.

Checking the Result

Save the file and reload the config or restart the game. Pick up an item that normally shows a border and watch it as it moves between your hotbar and your main inventory. The border should vanish on the hotbar slot and reappear once the item sits in the inventory grid. If it still shows on the hotbar, re-open the config and confirm you edited the hotbar option and not the general enable/disable switch, which would turn borders off everywhere.
