Troubleshoot Train Linking Problems

Verify You Have the Right Items

Confirm you're holding an iron chain in your main hand when attempting to link carts. Using any other item won't create connections. Double-check your inventory.

Check Your Sneaking and Clicking

Make sure you're holding Shift (sneaking) before right-clicking each cart. Without sneaking, the click won't register as a link command. Click on the cart body itself, not the space around it.

Ensure Carts Are on Rails

Both minecarts must be placed on functional rail blocks. Carts sitting on ground or other blocks cannot be linked. Verify your rail line is complete and unbroken.

Confirm Connection Status

After linking, look for blue chain particles between carts. If particles don't appear, the link didn't register. Try the linking process again, ensuring you sneak and right-click each cart in sequence.

Test Movement

Push the lead cart gently to see if trailing carts follow. If they don't move together, disconnect using an axe and retry the linking process from the beginning.
