Disconnect Minecarts from a Train

Prepare Your Axe

Hold any axe in your main hand. This is the only tool needed to break train connections.

Disconnect Individual Carts

1. Sneak (hold Shift) while holding the axe

2. Right-click on any cart in the train that you want to disconnect

3. The cart will separate from the train immediately

You can disconnect carts from anywhere in the line—the lead cart, middle carts, or trailing carts. When you disconnect a cart, the chain particles linking it to adjacent carts will disappear.

Understand Post-Separation Behavior

After disconnection, the separated cart's movement depends on your mod configuration. Check your settings for the brakingAfterTrainSeparation option—this determines whether the disconnected cart stops immediately or continues moving. If you need to stop carts completely after separation, enable this setting in your configuration menu.
