How to Move a Single Item Between Inventories with Inventory Essentials

The Basic Single-Item Move

Normally, clicking an item in a chest or your inventory picks up the whole stack. Inventory Essentials changes that so you can grab just one item at a time without splitting stacks manually.

1. Open any container (chest, barrel, furnace output, your own inventory, etc.).

2. Hold Control on your keyboard.

3. Click the item you want to move.

With Control held, the click moves exactly one item from that slot to the matching slot on the other side of the screen. If you are looking at a chest slot, the item goes to your inventory. If you are looking at a slot in your own inventory, the item goes to the chest.

When to Use It

This is the shortcut you want when you are:

  • Pulling one ingot out of a full stack to craft with.
  • Taking a single food item from a chest instead of the whole pile.
  • Dropping one item into a furnace or crafting grid slot.
  • Handing one item to a friend's inventory in a shared storage area.

Because it works on any slot in any open container screen, you do not need to remember special keybinds per menu. Just hold Control and click. Release Control and normal stack behavior returns, so you can mix single-item moves and full-stack moves in the same session without changing settings.
