How to Identify an Infernal Mob Before It Kills You

Read the Name Tag First

Infernal mobs are visually identical to their normal counterparts until you get close enough to read their nameplate. The name is prefixed with a rarity tag — Rare, Ultra, or Infernal — followed by the mob's name and a list of its active modifiers. Before you swing, hover your crosshair over the mob or approach carefully and read that list. The prefix tells you how many effects and how much bonus HP you are dealing with, so a Rare zombie with two effects is a fair fight while an Infernal anything is a boss encounter.

Watch for the Visual Cues

Several modifiers change the mob's appearance or behavior in ways you can spot from a distance. Mobs with fiery or glowing auras, mobs that teleport, mobs that spawn particles, and mobs that move noticeably faster than their vanilla version are all giving away their modifiers. If a mob is regenerating health you will see its health bar refill between hits — stop trading blows and reposition.

Decide Before You Engage

Once you know the rarity and the modifier list, pick your approach. Bulwark plus Regen means you need burst damage or you will never out-sustain it. Wither plus Vengeance means every hit you land hurts you back, so ranged or indirect kills are safer. If the list looks unwinnable with your current gear, walk away — infernal mobs do not despawn faster than normal ones and you can return prepared.
