Where to Put Custom Images for Immersive Paintings (and Why They Don't Show)

Finding the Image Folder

Immersive Paintings loads custom images from a folder inside your Minecraft instance, typically under the mod's config or a dedicated paintings directory. Open that folder and drop your PNG or JPG files directly into it — subfolders may or may not be scanned depending on configuration. After adding files, reopen a painting's GUI to refresh the list; if the new image still doesn't appear, restart the game.

Why an Image Won't Display

Common causes: the file is the wrong format (use PNG or JPG), the filename contains characters the mod can't parse, or the file is too large. Very high-resolution images can fail to load or cause stuttering, so downscale them first. On servers, the image must exist where the server expects it, or be synced to clients — otherwise players see a placeholder.

Sharing and Server Setup

For multiplayer, the safest approach is to distribute the same image files to everyone or rely on the mod's syncing so clients receive them automatically. Check the mod's configuration options for anything related to image size limits, allowed folders, or syncing behavior. If images work in singleplayer but not on a server, the difference is almost always file availability or a config setting on the server side.
