Set Up Torches in a Dense Forest Without Causing Wildfires
Use Elevated Platforms
Forests are full of flammable wood, so avoid ground-level torch placement:
- Build stone or dirt platforms elevated above the canopy for your torches
- Place torches on these platforms rather than on trees or low structures
- This keeps flames away from dense wood blocks while still providing light
Create Safe Pathways
If you need to light a forest trail:
- Clear a corridor of non-flammable blocks (stone, gravel, dirt) through the forest
- Place torches exclusively on these cleared blocks
- Maintain distance from tree trunks and branches on both sides
- Consider using stone pillars spaced along your path instead of ground placement
Alternative: Minimal Lighting
For exploration and navigation:
- Use handheld light sources like torches in your inventory rather than placing them
- Mark your path with non-flammable blocks (stone, concrete) instead of torches
- Save placed torches for your base or cleared areas only
- Rely on natural daylight when possible and avoid nighttime forest work
