Prepare for Mounted Combat
Choose the Right Horse Class
War horses are purpose-built for combat, offering high health and panic resistance. They won't flee when taking damage, keeping you stable during fights. Race or Western horses work too, but require more careful positioning.
Master Combat Abilities
While mounted, you can perform charge attacks by building momentum and striking enemies. This deals increased damage and can knock back multiple foes. Use gallop to build speed before engaging.
Your horse can also execute defensive back kicks when enemies approach from behind. These trigger automatically but are more effective when your horse is well-bonded and trained.
Tactical Positioning
Use the gait system strategically—walk or trot for precise positioning, canter for moderate speed, and gallop for hit-and-run tactics. Manage your horse's stamina by switching between gaits rather than maintaining full gallop continuously.
Protect Your Mount
Keep your horse's bond high to maximize its combat effectiveness. Equip protective gear and avoid prolonged fights in dangerous biomes. Use the command wheel to set your horse to "follow" so it stays close during combat rather than wandering away.
