Fix Flickering or Uneven Lighting

Identify the Problem

Flickering usually happens when shadow updates conflict with moving light sources (like torches or mobs). Uneven lighting appears as strange bright or dark patches that don't match the light source.

Check Shadow Settings

In Shader Options, verify that shadow filtering is enabled. This smooths out harsh shadow edges and reduces flickering. If flickering persists, try lowering the shadow quality—sometimes lower resolution actually stabilizes the effect.

Adjust Lighting Update Speed

Look for a setting related to light propagation or update frequency. Slowing this down slightly can eliminate flickering caused by rapid light changes, though it may make dynamic lighting feel slightly less responsive.

Verify Compatibility

Ensure no other mods are conflicting with the shader. Mods that heavily modify lighting or block rendering can cause issues. Try disabling other visual mods temporarily to test.

Reset to Defaults

If problems persist, reset Shader Options to default settings. HyShaders Vanilla's defaults are carefully balanced. Once stable, adjust settings one at a time to identify which change caused the issue.
