Create Atmospheric Lighting for Spooky Structures
Plan Your Lighting Strategy
Before building, decide what mood you want: abandoned and decrepit, actively haunted, or mysteriously dark. HyShaders Horror's lighting system responds to block light sources, so your placement matters.
Use Light Sources Strategically
- Sparse Placement: Place torches, lanterns, or other light blocks far apart to create pools of light surrounded by deep shadows.
- Colored Lighting: Use different light-emitting blocks to create eerie color combinations—cool blues mixed with warm oranges suggest danger or supernatural activity.
- Shadows as Design: Let the shader's shadow system create natural darkness in corners, alcoves, and underground spaces. Avoid over-lighting; restraint enhances horror.
Test Lighting in Context
Build a small test structure and observe how the shader renders it at different times of day and night. Notice how shadows fall across walls and floors. Adjust your light source placement based on what creates the most unsettling atmosphere. Remember that the shader's ambient lighting settings also affect how visible your intentional light sources appear, so coordinate both elements for maximum impact.
