Troubleshoot Low FPS or Stuttering Despite Hydrogen
Identify the Real Problem
If you're still experiencing lag with Hydrogen installed:
1. Check your render distance—this is the biggest FPS killer. Lower it to 6–8 chunks and test
2. Disable resource packs temporarily—high-resolution packs demand extra processing
3. Close background applications—web browsers, Discord, and streaming software consume RAM and CPU
4. Allocate more RAM to Minecraft if possible (typically 2–4 GB for low-end systems)
Verify Hydrogen Loaded Correctly
If stuttering persists:
1. Check your launcher's console output during startup for any error messages
2. Ensure no conflicting mods are installed alongside Hydrogen
3. Create a new world and test in a flat, empty area—if FPS improves dramatically, the issue is world complexity, not the modpack
4. Try standing still for 10 seconds to let chunks fully load and render
Hydrogen optimizes rendering and memory, but it can't overcome hardware limitations. If your PC struggles with vanilla Minecraft at low settings, the modpack will help but won't perform miracles. Focus on reducing render distance and disabling fancy graphics features first.
