Adjust Shader Settings for Your Hardware
Access the Shader Menu
Press the Shader Options button in your Video Settings menu (usually accessible from the main pause menu). This opens the HighFrames configuration panel where you can customize visual quality.
Reduce Quality for Better Performance
If you're experiencing frame drops, lower these settings:
- Shadow Quality: Reduce from high to medium or low. Lower settings remove detailed shadow rendering while keeping soft shadows visible.
- Bloom Intensity: Decrease the glow effect on light sources. This is one of the most performance-intensive features.
- Water Animation: Disable or set to minimal if your GPU struggles. The water will still render but won't animate as smoothly.
- Ambient Occlusion: Turn off if needed—this darkens crevices and corners but costs performance.
Test Your Changes
After adjusting each setting, return to your world and observe frame rates in a demanding area (like a forest with many trees casting shadows). Aim for consistent frames above your monitor's refresh rate.
Increase Quality for Better Visuals
If your frame rate is stable and high, gradually increase shadow quality and bloom intensity to enhance the visual experience without sacrificing smoothness.
