Optimize Shadow Softness for Your Hardware
Understanding Shadow Quality
High Frames Plus Shaders softens shadows cast by trees, buildings, and terrain for a cleaner, more cinematic appearance. The softness level can be adjusted to balance visual quality with frame rate stability.
Adjusting Shadow Settings
Open your shader options and find the Shadows or Shadow Quality section. Look for options controlling shadow softness, blur radius, or shadow distance.
Increase shadow softness for a more polished, movie-like appearance with smooth transitions between lit and shadowed areas. This works especially well in forests and near structures.
Decrease softness if you want sharper shadow definition or need better performance on older hardware. Even at lower softness values, this shader maintains cleaner shadows than vanilla Minecraft.
Testing Your Setup
Visit areas with varied terrain and structures—forests, villages, and canyons show shadow differences clearly. Observe shadows during different times of day; morning and evening light creates more dramatic shadow effects. Since this shader prioritizes frame rates, you should maintain smooth performance even with maximum shadow softness on most systems.
