Fixing a Compass HUD That Is Invisible or Hard to Read
First Checks
If the compass readout is not showing at all, the most common cause is the compass requirement. Confirm whether mustHaveCompassInInventory is enabled and whether you actually have a compass in your inventory. If it is enabled and you have none, either carry one or disable the option.
Readability Problems
When the text is present but you cannot read it, the issue is usually color or shadow. Open the config and check the RGB_R, RGB_G, and RGB_B values. A color close to the background (white text over snow, dark text at night) will blend in. Pick a contrasting color, or enable drawTextShadow so the text stands out against any terrain.
Position and Overlap Issues
If the readout seems missing, it may be hidden behind another mod's overlay. Try switching the anchor between compassPositionIsLeft, compassPositionIsCenter, and compassPositionIsRight, and raise compassHeightOffset so the text clears other HUD elements. Move it to an empty corner and confirm it reappears.
Format Problems
A malformed guiCompassFormat can produce a blank or confusing line. Reset it to a simple combination of the direction and coordinate placeholders, save, and check again. Once it displays correctly, reintroduce extra placeholders one at a time.
